THE MIDWEST AVENGERS SATURDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 28, 2008 AT THE TASTE OF ST. LOUISreview by Phil Seahorn
This is EXACTLY how this went down:
Never been to the "taste" thing, but have always heard good things.
Got down there, and noticed one band playing on this big stage at the entrance.
Then started looking for the food.
You know, it was the "Taste of St. Louis."
Well, some fucking genuise suggested that you put the food booths on the fucking OUTSIDE of the festival.
So, after walking thru all these commercial booths in the MIDDLE of the fair, I'm looking for some food.
Got to this artist's villiage (lots of talented people here in St. Louis) and noticed this band playing this fucking INCREDIBLE mix of rock and rap.
Well, I like this shit (all time favorite band "Rage Against the Machine, which to me is the PERFECT mix of rap and rock) and I hear this band.
So, I start asking people,"Who is this band?", and they don't know, either.
Walked aroud the artist villiage, and these motherfuckers start getting BETTER.
I'm like, WHO THE FUCK IS THIS BAND???
So they do about another twenty minutes, then they break out into solos on the guitar, bass, and drums, and I was fucking floored.
Knocked the fuck out.
Who the fuck is this band???
So, I ask this cat at the end of the set who the band was.
"Midwest Avengers".
Okay, since I write and draw comics,I knew who these cats where, as they get periodic write ups in the "Riverfront Times."
To say the VERY fucking least, these cats are HIGHLY underrated.
These cats are not only good, they are FUCKING EXCELLENT MUSICIANS.
That's what makes "Rage" good, because they are very good musicians.
I was more hyped on the solos, because they were fucking good, and the rappers were phenomenal.
So, the mananger of the group comes over, I guess because I was asking so many people WHO THE FUCK IS THE BAND?
These cats are incredible.
Got to meet one of the rappers and the guitarist, who I again said, in these exact words:
"You motherfuckers are EXCELLENT."
The set, which I ONLY caught the last twenty minutes, was excellent.
Checked out their music digitally, and they are phenomenal.
Got a set at The Pageant,which is October 4th.
